DNS
Domain nameservers
- What is DNS and what do I need to do about it?
DNS, or the domain name system, is how the Internet keeps track of where your domain is hosted.
All you really need to know is that your domain needs to be pointed to the Tropical Web Works nameservers, which are:
ns1.flwebgeek.com
ns2.flwebgeek.com
You can make this change at the registrar where you registered your domain. If Tropical Web Works registered your domain for you, we will take care of setting your DNS. - How long does it take for my DNS change to start working?
Because of the recent move to more frequent DNS updates, your DNS change may take effect in as little as a few minutes, but it can still take several hours, or even up to 2 days, for the DNS change to propagate completely. - Can I access my site even though the DNS change has not propagated yet?
Yes, can you can access your site by using the shared numeric IP address for your account, which is in your welcome e-mail. You would enter this in your browser:
http://ipaddress/~yourusername
In your ftp program, you would connect to the numeric IP address as the host, and your username and password to log on. This will automatically connect you to your home directory.
You can access your cPanel this way:
http://ipaddress/cpanel
Then log in to cPanel using your account username and password. This will automatically log you in to your cPanel account.
