How To Set Up Your E-mail Account in Microsoft Outlook
The following instructions are specifically for Microsoft Outlook. Most e-mail programs use a similar process to configure an e-mail account.
Note: Everywhere we use "yourdomain.com" or "example.com" please substitute your actual domain. Depending on your version of Outlook and Windows, your screen may look slightly different.
Step 1: From the Tools menu, choose E-mail Accounts
Step 2: Select "Add a new e-mail account" and click Next.
Step 3: Select POP3 and click Next
Step 4: Fill in the following:
-
Your user information:
Your name as it you want it to appear to people when you send e-mails
Your full e-mail address. Typically, this is yourmailboxname@yourdomain.com
-
Your logon information:
This should be the full e-mail address that corresponds to the e-mail account you created in cPanel. For example, if you created a mailbox for bill for the website example.com, here you should enter bill@example.com. Also enter the password you set up in cPanel for this e-mail account.
-
Your Server Information:
For your incoming (POP3) e-mail, enter mail.yourdomain.com
For outgoing mail, we recommend that you use your ISP's smtp server. It may be smtp.yourisp.com, or mail.yourisp.com, or some other variation. Many ISPs reduce spam by not allowing "relaying." If your ISP does not permit relaying, then you won't be able to use your domain's smtp mail server for outgoing mail and you will have to use your ISP's smtp mail server. But even if your ISP currently allows you to use a different smtp server, they may disable that ability at some future point and you will suddenly find yourself unable to send mail. By entering your ISP's smtp server here, you will avoid such problems. You can get around this problem by using SMTP authentication to send your e-mails, but it's easiest to just use your ISP's mail server to send mail.
If you enter your ISP's mail server here, then the first time you send an e-mail using this account, Outlook will ask you for the password. That will be the password for your ISP. Enter it, and check the box to have Outlook remember it.
If your ISP allows relaying, then can use your domain's smtp mail server for outgoing mail, and you can enter mail.yourdomain.com here.
Click "Next" then click "Finish" and you should be done.
